The rock ridges sink into the sand along the beach. They provide small places to hide away, to sit, to play, below the stark World war 2 rock cut in the soft sandstone in the cliffs above.

When sketching the beach opposite, this woman came and sat in front of me, lit a tiny fire with a few leaves and cooked the ‘clams’ she had gathered on the rocks. I asked her if I could include her in my drawing and she agreed.
